This text explores the impact of World War I on the work of W.B. Yeats, Robert Graves, and Louis MacNeice in the period 1914-45, and on three contemporary Northern Irish poets, Derek Mahon, Seamus Heaney, and Michael Longley. Its concern is to place their work, and memory of the Great War, in the context of Irish politics and culture in the 20th century.
Review edited and adapted from the Times Literary Supplement.

Death of a Naturalist marks the auspicious outset of an acclaimed master. As a first book of poems, it is remarkable for its accurate perceptions and its rich linguistic gifts.
Note: This first of his books is out of print, you should still be able to find a copy here: Death of a Naturalist

This is the only book of Patrick Kavanagh's poems we could find. The rest appear to be out-of-print. We will continue our search but, meanwhile, you can have this one.
We have our favorites, of course, and they are all in here.

The Secret Rose: Love Poems of W. B Yeats
Edited by A. Norman Jeffares
This is a very fine introduction to the life and love poetry of W.B. Yeats. The 48 short poems published here are lovely, touching, and often sad, but have beautifully sculpted lines.

I have her first book - "Caravan."
Many of the pages are dog-eared, the favorites clearly marked by the accidental ring of a wine glass put down, while leaning back to savor the pure delight of whimsies such as "Dancing the Boys Into Bed." - Bridget Haggerty

I have known Ethna for some years. As the co-publisher of my book, we first met at a Chicago book fair. What I could not have anticipated was meeting a woman with a gift for words that can move me to tears; to laughter; to joy in reading and re-reading the well-turned phrase. And, inevitably, to envying the skill.

Interested in Irish Poetry? Here's the easy way to collect them all (well, almost all, anyway).
Malachy McCourt says in his introduction, "With the republication of this book, the Irish recover under their roof of stars all the great poets and writers who have been falsely claimed by the saxon crown and its minions - even our reprobates."
Amazon states this is out of stock. They still have used copies for almost nothing (except shipping - chuckle). If you would like a new edition, it was available at Powell's. We can't promise it's still there. Click here for Powell's 1000 Years.
