Keane
by Roy Keane

Rejected by every big club he approached, when Brian Clough finally gave Roy Keane a chance at Nottingham Forest he seized it and has never let go. As the inspirational captain of the most famous football (soccer) club in the world, he's been the driving force behind Manchester United's unprecedented run of success that includes back-to-back doubles, the treble and the World Club Championship. In a team of world-class players, Keane's influence cannot be overstated.

The Emerald Age of Baseball
by Jerrold Casway

During the "Emerald Age" of baseball, Irish-American players comprised from 30 to 50 percent of all players, managers, and team captains. Baseball for young Irishmen was a ticket out of poverty into a life of fame and fortune. Jerrold Casway offers a compelling examination of the life and career of Ed Delahanty - the first "King of Swatsville’s." Through Delahanty’s story, Casway traces the evolving character of major league baseball and its effect on the lives and ambitions of its athletes.

Somewhere in Ireland, a Village is Missing an Idiot
by David Feherty

His golf is that of Everyman, where expletives, immaturity and the occasional ingestion of alcohol combine to make it a fun and infuriating game. If you like your golf writing irreverent, dicey and honest, you will certainly enjoy this. One word of warning though, do not read this book in a libary, hospital, or anywhere else you will get in trouble for laughing out loud.

Only Golf Spoken here

The Galway Hooker

This unique vessel, with its distinctive curved lines and bright red sails, originated in the village of Claddagh. During the 19th century, hookers supported a significant fishing industry and also carried goods, livestock and fuel. Seán Rainey is remembered for building the last of the original boats, the Truelight, for Martin Oliver who was to become the last king of the Claddagh; as king, he was entitled to white sails on his boat. Since the mid seventies, many of the old sailing craft which were on the verge of extinction have been lovingly restored and new ones have been built. During the summer months they can be seen at festivals such a Cruinniú na mBád - the Gathering of the Boats - in Kinvara.
