Our world is a very different place than it was before September 11th, 2001. Now, more than ever, we need the power of prayer or meditation in our lives. Several years ago, our friend Eileen was the inspiration for beginning a series of nine Novenas.
Whatever your spiritual leanings, we hope you will pray or meditate with us at 9:30 each morning. Don't worry if the time is inconvenient; as Eileen put it, "pray at your own best time — God loves all prayers and we don't believe He uses a clock. Our thoughts and souls being unified in prayer throughout the day will be pleasing and will be heard."

Novena to St. Jude

"May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be adored, glorified, loved and preserved throughout the world now and forever. Sacred Heart of Jesus, pray for us. St. Jude, worker of miracles, pray for us.

Novena to St. Patrick

O Great Apostle of Ireland, and Patron of our people, so many are indebted to you for the great treasure of our faith. Receive our fervent thanks for the zeal and charity that has been an invaluable source of blessings to so many of our brothers and sisters. We ask your intercession for (here mention your intentions); asking you to submit all our temporal and spiritual needs to God. We pray great St. Patrick, that we always be devoted and loyal; our thoughts be of Jesus; our hearts be His shrine, so that when our life's path has been trod, we may be found worthy of eternal salvation. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Amen.

Novena to St. Joseph
Feast Day - March 19th

Oh Saint Joseph whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires.
Oh Saint Joseph, assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your Heavenly power I may offer my Thanksgiving and Homage to the Loving of Fathers.
Oh Saint Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart.
Press Him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.
Saint Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for us.
Amen

Say for nine consecutive mornings for anything you may desire. It has seldom been known to fail.

Note
: Whichever Novena you choose, the prayer is repeated 9 times each morning for a period of 9 days.

An inspirational quote on Faith:
When we walk to the edge of all the light we have and take the step into the darkness of the unknown, we must believe that one of two things will happen:
There will be something solid for us to stand on or we will be taught to fly. Patrick Overton

Universal Prayer For Peace
Lead me from death to life,
From falsehood to truth.
Lead me from despair to hope,
From fear to trust.
Lead me from hate to love,
From war to peace.
Let peace fill our hearts,
Our world, our universe.
Peace, Peace, Peace.

The story behind the Prayer for Peace
In July 1981, Mother Teresa gave the first public pronouncement of what is known as the 'Universal Prayer for Peace'. This took place at the Anglican St. James' Church, Piccadilly in London. This well-known 'Prayer',was designed to be truly international — a prayer which would be capable of transcription into any language and in supplication to any god.

A little research reveals that this 'prayer' was originally adapted by the former Jain monk and environmentalist, Satish Kumar, from a mantra in the Indian Hindu Upanishads. The Upanishads are essentially monistic treatises, secret Hindu doctrines, written from 800-400 B.C.

Your Comments
"This is WONDERFUL Bridget. I have printed this and posted on my refrigerator your prayer and will continue to say it each morning and throughout the day. Somehow praying for others is more satisfying and comforting than praying for oneself . God Bless !!! I will send this on to my friends." JF

"The word spectacular seems to fall a little short. So I will add supurb, unrivaled, breathtaking, and exquisite — take your pick of words— they all apply. A beautiful new addition to your very lovely site." ME

The Galway Hooker

This unique vessel, with its distinctive curved lines and bright red sails, originated in the village of Claddagh. During the 19th century, hookers supported a significant fishing industry and also carried goods, livestock and fuel. Seán Rainey is remembered for building the last of the original boats, the Truelight, for Martin Oliver who was to become the last king of the Claddagh; as king, he was entitled to white sails on his boat. Since the mid seventies, many of the old sailing craft which were on the verge of extinction have been lovingly restored and new ones have been built. During the summer months they can be seen at festivals such a Cruinniú na mBád - the Gathering of the Boats - in Kinvara.
